How good are as new and used items?

Whilst we sell a lot of stock that is new or 'as new' and direct from the manufacturer or distributor, Mya Models is a second hand shop.

Many 'as new' items are exactly that - boxed or packaged, unopened or opened and resealed, and just as you'd buy in a shop.

Items may be boxed and 'as new' means you couldn't see the difference between the item and a new one on the shelves of your favourite model shop. Some of it may have discoloured or faded packaging, but the model itself is excellent.

Items that are moving to a new owner are often in excellent condition. Many of the items we have for sale are those that have been bought and squirreled away for another project, to use in another corner of the layout or the next kit build or - we all do it - because we 'always fancied building one of those' but probably never will.

Many items are pristine but unboxed and have adorned the shelves of the owner. Model railway locos and stock may have been run no more than a few times but proudly sat in a display cabinet. They may have sat in a siding adorning the layout, perhaps gathering a little dust which is easily removed.

We have some wonderful items that have been improved with detail components, or 'weathered' for realism in the grubby yard area and not as if just delivered off the manufacturers production line - be it the real one or the model manufacturer. (It was years before model manufacturers, like Dapol and Hornby realised they could sell items for more if 'dirtied up' to look more realistic).

We have aircraft and other kits that have been started and then left as another box follows the owner home after a shopping trip to become the latest project.

Occasionally bits may be missing, For kits we will try and check the instructions and identify those parts. Railway stock sometimes has a broken coupling and we will try to list those. (It is also important to note that they may have a mix of different couplings, so please check photos carefully, or be prepared to change them if necessary).

Where possible we will try to identify the state of the item, and adjust the price to reflect any damage or deficiencies (- or maybe to reflect improvements!) Many items are a bargain over the original price.

It remains up to you to repair or recreate missing parts, live without it, or otherwise be creative. If you are concerned and we haven't specified, drop an email and we'll check the item in question.

We have some quantities of certain stock - several wagons, for example. We will list these under the one heading of comparable quality. They should all be similar and we will select what we consider to be the best items to send.

As an example, the layout in the photograph at the top of this page is that of my late father in law. A massive steelworks and industrial layout it is now dismantled and a lot of items on here are from that. Well made, well painted and only occasionally run.

Because these items do experience some damage or deterioration they are sold as second hand and without affecting your statutory rights, this must affect certain decisions on accepting returns.
